Pench National Park

Located in the Seoni and Chhindwara districts of Madhya Pradesh, Pench National Park is a paradise for wildlife lovers. Named after the Pench River which meanders through it, the Park sprawls across around 758 sq km. It was an inspiration to the famous Rudyard Kipling for writing the world famous ‘The Jungle Book’. It was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1983 and a Project Tiger Reserve in 1992. It boasts of the highest density of herbivores in India. You can explore the Park on an elephant safari or a jeep safari.

Most of the area of the Park is covered with small hill ranges. The Park consists of open canopy, mixed forests with grassy patches and shrub cover. More than 1200 species of plants are found here.
The rich diversity of fauna in the Park includes many animals like tiger, leopard, Indian bison, cheetal, sambar, nilgai, wild dog, wild pig, wild dog, wolf, sloth bear, chousingha, chinkara, barking deer, jackal, fox, palm civet, small Indian civet, striped hyena, jungle cat, hyena, porcupine etc. The Park is home to around 120 bird species. Some of the commonly sighted birds in the Park are minivets orioles, waterfowls, blue kingfishers, mynas, wagtails, bulbul, barbets, peafowl, jungle fowl, crow pheasant, crimson-breasted barbet, red-vented bulbul, racket-tailed drongo, Indian roller, magpie robin, lesser whistling teal, pintail, shoveller, etc.

How to reach
The nearest airport is at Nagpur (186 km) which connects it to the major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata. It is also well connected to the major cities of the country by the railway station at Nagpur.
